The legal team of Benchers Law Firm ensured review of the petition by the Kyiv Court of Appeal in the high-profile case brought by the State Bureau of Investigation against Valery Shandra, the Chairman of the Board of Kuznya on Rybalsky PJSC, and significantly reduced the bail amount for the defendant.
Following legal action by the attorneys and a rigorous judicial review, the court ruled to partially satisfy the appeal. As a result, the defendant, who was facing 7 to 10 years of imprisonment, has been subjected to pre-trial restrictions in the form of detention until September 2, 2021. The bail amount has been reduced from the previously announced UAH 443 million to approximately UAH 50 million.
“The criminal case initiated against our client accuses him of supplying poor-quality equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and of abuse of power. The defense holds that these accusations are untrue and suggest politically motivated persecution. Today, we are doing everything possible to ascertain the truth and defend our client,” says Oleksandr Mykytenko, partner at Benchers Law Firm.
